Winter Skincare Update

Hey everyone!

With the cold weather we're having here in Toronto I thought it'd be a great time to go over my winter skincare. This winter my skin has been extra dry. I've never really had dry skin and in the past my skin has usually been normal/oily. So I've had to change up my skincare to meet my current needs.

Find out more below!

Let's start up with my go to cleanser at the moment - the Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser. I picked this up during Sephora's Black Friday sale because I was running low on my Vichy cleanser. I love the Purity Made Simple cleanser because it's as the name suggest - it's a simple gentle cleanser. I use it to remove makeup and cleanse my skin. If you're looking for something to fight acne this might not be the cleanser for you as it doesn't have active ingredients that acne cleansers will have.

After I cleanse, I'll use an exfoliating pad. The First Aid Beauty - Facial Radiance Pads are a great choice if you're first starting out with exfoliating pads. They're not harsh on the skins and have never broken me out. I like to use these every other day after cleansing. I think this tub is my third and this is definitely a staple product for me. I also wanted to give a mention to the Dr. Dennis Gross - Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel. I got a sample pack of these two step pads in a Sephora 100 point perk. I found these to be stronger then the First Aid Beauty Radiance Pads but leave the skin feeling smooth and bright. I definitely will purchase a full pack - but I'm going to wait until I get through the First Aid Beauty pack.

Now on to moisturizers. My daily moisturizer is the Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil. Due to my drier skin, my previous moisturizer wasn't giving my skin enough moisture. I actually switched to this oil because of a Clarins representative that was at Sephora one day. I was asking her about another Clarins product and she gave me a sample of the oil as well. So after testing it out for a week I picked up a full size. I like that this oil is light and blends into the skin very easily. I will note that it has a heavy scent. It's very strong and will last after you first apply it. But since I apply this oil only at night the scent will be gone in the morning. I will also mention that if you have very dry skin this oil is probably not for you. I have a couple dry patches on my skin and I found that isn't helping get rid of them. So I recommend this oil if you have normal or combination skin.

On occasion I will use the AmorePacific - Moisture Bound Sleeping Recovery Mask*. I had never heard of this brand until this product was sent to me but it's actually available at Sephora! I like to apply this overnight once a week as a moisturizing treatment. It takes time to soak into the skin but it's completely absorbed into the skin by morning time.

Lastly, for my eye area I will use the Amore Pacific - Intense Vitalizing Eye Essence*. I use this only at night as it take a while to absorb into the skin. What I don't like about this product is the packaging. When you press the pump it disperses too much product. One pump is enough for both eyes - anymore you'll be making a mess of things. This was sent over to me but I won't be repurchasing. I do like the eye cream and find it moisturizing  But these roll on type of eye creams I find to be better in the morning. Because this eye cream takes a long time to absorb into the skin - I can't use it in the morning.

I thought I'd give a mention to the Dermalogica Hydrablur Primer. I like to use this when my skin is feeling extra dry in the morning on top of my moisturizer. It provides extra moisture to my skin, leaving my skin looking fresh during the day.

There you have it! My updated skincare routine. What are some of your favourite skincare products?
